My Visit to Thirst Juice Co.

Last weekend, I was graciously invited to visit one of Boston’s newest juice and smoothie spots, Thirst Juice Co. Lawyers by trade, and distance-runners and health-nuts by practice, Heather Stevenson and her husband Chris founded Thirst Juice Co. this past fall. They were looking to get out of the law business and open up a business that offered healthy and delicious options for Boston’s health-conscious.

I arrived on a windy and snowy first-day-of Spring. What a great way to kick off spring — smoothies!

While Heather and I chatted, I tried one of their juices, the Buddhabeet (great name), which included beet, carrot, pear, pineapple, and ginger. I find that beet in juices is a hit or miss in terms of taste. Some people find beets super earthy and hard to drink, while others (like myself) love the earthy flavor. They were sweet and offered a nice balance to the bright pineapple and spicy ginger.

I also tried one of Heather’s favorite smoothies, Mint Condition, which was made up of a mix of mint, pineapple, blueberries, cucumber, ginger, coconut water, and hemp seeds. The smoothie was very refreshing. It tasted a bit like a mojito with the mint and the coconut flavor. This smoothie would be the perfect refresher on a hot day or after a sweaty workout. Add in some protein powder and it would be a great recovery drink after a hard run or strength session at the gym.

Heather also convinced me to try my first wheatgrass shot. I honestly have stayed away from wheatgrass before, selfishly because of my own reluctance to try drinking liquid grass. It never really sat well with me. But Heather explained that their grass is grown by a local farmer and that it’s much sweeter than other wheatgrasses she’s had before. I chased it with a bite of orange, but honestly I didn’t need it. The shot was  earthy like I expected, but also very sweet and bright.

Thirst Juice Co. offers other kinds of boosts you can add to any smoothie or shots just on their own. Hemp seeds, chia seeds, Spirulina, vegan protein powder, and almond butter to name a few. Everything on their menu is also 100% gluten free and vegan. No worries about cross-contamination here if you have a food allergy!

Besides smoothies and juices, Thirst also offers quite a few food and juice options including bottled cold-pressed juice that are easy to grab when you’re on the go, acai bowls (the only place I’ve seen in Boston that offers this Cali staple), soups, quinoa bowls, and coffee. Whether you’re looking for a juice to add some nutrition to your day or a complete meal, Thirst Juice Co. has a ton of options. I’m always happy to see a local business arrive in the neighborhood. In an area that has many chain restaurants, this is a welcomed healthy addition! I will definitely be back to try the coconut acai bowl that I had my eye on!
